Char-Lan major midget hockey team draws even in playoff series

Last night in Williamstown, Char-Lan's major midget hockey team drew even in its playoff series with South Dundas, and we have the story in this week's edition of The Glengarry News.

Junior A Hawks seize lead in playoff series with Colts

On Monday night in Hawkesbury, a double-overtime game same the Hawks take a two-games-to-one lead in their opening-round CCHL playoff series with the Cornwall Colts. Be sure to check out our story in this week's edition of The Glengarry News, with an emphasis on the county boys playing for both teams.

The series continues this week, with action Thursday in Cornwall and Friday in Hawkesbury.

Game three of Hawks-Colts series goes tonight in Hawkesbury

With the teams tied 1-1 in their opening-round playoff series, the Cornwall Colts will skate into Hawkesbury tonight for a 7:30 p.m. game against the Hawks.

Minor playoffs on ice in Williamstown tonight

A pair of minor hockey playoff games is scheduled for Williamstown tonight, to be played at the Char-Lan Rec. Centre, beginning at 7 p.m.

First up, the peewee Rebels will take on the South Stormont Selections. The teams are even at 2 points apiece in their UCMHL opening-round playoff series.

At 8:30 p.m., major midget action will take over, as Char-Lan entertains South Dundas. The Demons won game one 6-3 earlier this month.

Alexandria's peewee C hockey team in championship series

The Alexandria peewee 'C' Glens have qualified for the league championship series, which is scheduled to open March 20, at 7:30 p.m., in Alexandria.

Game two is booked for 7 p.m. in Long Sault, with the third tilt back in Alexandria the next day, starting bright and early at 9:30 a.m.

If needed, a fourth contest will be played March in Long Sault, at 1 p.m. Game five is TBD.

The Glens are playing the South Stormont Selects for the LSLMHL title.

Alumni draft sets rosters for Royals/Colts game

The teams are set for the 2018 Cornwall Royals/Colts alumni hockey game, on Saturday morning.

The General managers were Brent Loney and Gilles Crepeau. The draft was held at Shoeless Joe’s Cornwall, with Team Loney drawing the first overall selection and picking former Colts star Jesse Winchester.  

Team Crepeau built his roster after selecting another Colts alumnus, Brock McBride.

Admission is free. Doors to the civic complex open at 10:30 a.m., with the game slated for an 11:30 a.m. start.

Moose Bonspiel at Alexandria Curling Club this weekend

A new chapter for one of the longest-running men's curling bonspiels in Eastern Ontario will take place this weekend, at the Alexandria Curling Club.

The Alexandria Moulding/Home Hardware Moose Bonspiel is welcoming 23 out-of-club rinks and one local squad to the event's 54th edition.The title sponsorship has helped to provide cash prizes for the first time to the four top teams who will also vie for the Claude Filion Trophy.

Matches are scheduled for Friday evening (March 16) and throughout the day Saturday.

GSL minor playoffs continue, U16 boys champ crowned

This week's edition of The Glengarry News includes a story about remaining playoff action in the minor divisions of winter soccer for the Glengarry Soccer League.

We also have a feature on the U16 boys championship, which was contested last week. Photos of the action can be seen in our online gallery here.

CCHL2 Glens face must-win game on home nice Monday night

There will be Monday night junior 'B' hockey at the Glengarry Sports Palace in Alexandria, where the CCHL2 Glens face a do-or-die situation, trailing their playoff series with the Ottawa Canadians three games to two.

The Glens needs to win tonight to force a game seven, which would be played Tuesday evening in Ottawa.

Last Friday, the boys scored a 2-1 victory in Alexandria, to tie the series. Saturday saw Ottawa edge the Glens 3-2 to take back the series lead.

Junior B Glens skate into Ottawa tonight with series tied

Alexandria's CCHL2 Glens hit the road tonight for game 4 of their playoff series against the Ottawa Canadians. The boys tied the series last night at the Palace, with a 2-1 overtime victory.

The March 9 game saw the Glens Mikael Gibault assessed a major penalty for boarding in the second period. The infraction was called after some debate amongst the officials, while the Ottawa player was tended to by his team's trainer. 

The News has learned that the league subsequently stepped in to upgrade the penalty to a hit from behind and added a one-game suspension. Gibault is expected to sit out tonight, as a result.

Game 6 is scheduled for Monday night, back at the Glengarry Sports Palace, starting at 8 p.m.
