Sunday wins for Glens, Rebels

Your county's junior 'B' hockey teams both prevailed today, in rare Sunday CCHL2 action, in Glengarry.

The Char-Lan Rebels, playing in Williamstown, topped the Whitewater Kings 3-2, in a game decided by way of a shootout. Up north in Alexandria, the Glens doubled the Westport Rideaus 6-3.

Veilleux goes 2-for-4 in decisive Concordia baseball win at baseball nationals

Lancaster's Phil Veilleux saw action in the Concordia Stingers third game at baseball nationals, getting two hits and an RBI in four at-bats. The Stingers beat Carleton, the tournament hosts, 9-1.

The Stingers are now 2-1, scheduled to next play Oct. 21 at 1 p.m., against New Brunswick, in the second semifinal of the day. The other will feature Carleton and McGill.

The championship will also be played Sunday, set for a 6 p.m. opening pitch.

Great night for county's junior hockey teams

Both of the county's CCHL2 hockey teams prevailed tonight.

For the Char-Lan Rebels, the win came on home ice, a 1-0 decision over the Ottawa West Golden Knights.

The Alexandria Glens triumphed on the road, beating the Whitewater Kings 7-4.

Both teams have rare Sunday action on tap for Oct. 21. At 3:30 p.m., the Rebels will host the Kings, and starting at 4 p.m., the Glens will entertain the Westport Rideaus.

Prowlers set for senior 'A' hockey home opener

Coming off a 13-6 victory over the Cumberland Bandits last weekend, the Cornwall Prowlers senior 'A' hockey team will have its home opener on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Cornwall's multi-sport complex. Game time is set for 8 p.m, versus the Pontiac Comets, who are 0-2 on the season.

There is Glengarry county content on both sides, with Maxville's Adam Wensink suiting up for the Comets. The Prowlers have Jesse Fontaine and Pierre-Luc Sabourin.

Tickets are $8 for those 19 and over, $5 for ages 18 and under. A pre-sale of up to 100 tickets will be available at 812 Pitt St., Unit 52, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ticket sales at the door begin at 7 p.m.

Should the crowd exceed 700, there will be a draw of fans in attendance, the winner awarded a 55-inch TV.

Looking ahead, the team's second home game will be played Friday, Nov. 2, versus the Vaudreuil Titans, at 8:30 p.m.

Canadians dump Jr. A Colts

The Carlton Place Canadians jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead and never looked back, en route to a 6-2 victory over the Cornwall Colts, in CCHL hockey action Thursday night at the Ed Lumley Arena.

Ethan Mulhearn and Justin McRae scored the Colts goals (both of which came on the power play).

The Canadians outshot the Colts 45-17, with Mike Carr suffering the loss in goal.

Cornwall's record falls to 6-9-0-2 for 14 points and an eighth-place tie in the CCHL standings.

The Hardest Working Player of the game was Konnor MacCormick. Three stars were first Andrej Hromic (CP), second Ben Tupker (CP), and third Harley Michaels (COR).

The Colts' next game is Friday night in Kemptville. The boys will be back on home ice Oct. 25, at the Civic Complex, hosting the Hawkesbury Hawks, at 7:30 p.m.

Veilleux to participate in university baseball nationals with Concordia

Lancaster's Philippe Veilleux will be in Ottawa later this week, competing with the Concordia University men's baseball team in the national championship tournament.

The Stingers qualified as a wildcard entry after winning back-to-back games last weekend over Montreal.

Veilleux, who studies urban planning at Concordia, is an outfielder with the team.

The tournament is scheduled to run Oct. 18 to 21, with the Stingers scheduled to play three round-robin games: Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. versus New Brunswick, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. against McGill, and Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. versus Carleton.

Le Relais hosts girls PRSSAA soccer today

Prescott-Russell high school league girls soccer is taking place today in Alexandria, with games at le Relais and Island Park.

Next action for the senior les Rapides squad is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the school, where le Relais will square off against a team from Russell.

The junior girls' opening match is currently underway at the park, with their second action set for 12:45 p.m. versus VCI.

Prowlers prevail in first-ever LHSAO hockey game

Last weekend, the inaugural season for the Cornwall senior 'A' Prowlers hockey team got underway, with the squad playing to a 13-6 victory in Cumberland.

Alexandria's Pierre Luc Sabourin chalked up three assists in the contest, while Williamstown's Jesse Fontaine picked up one. Three players – Jonathan Labelle, Dominic Leveille, and Brandon Gilmour – had hat tricks. Other goals were notched by Chris Rutley, Sebastien Thinel, Thomas McRae, and Brody Taylor.

Josh Loney backstopped the win in net, facing 46 shots. The Prowlers fired a whopping 65 shots on the Bandits goal.

The team's next game will see the Prowlers skating on home ice, Saturday, Oct. 20, at 8 p.m., at Cornwall's multi-sport complex. The Comets, from Fort Coulange, Quebec, will provide the opposition.

Char-Lan Rebels back on home ice in Williamstown tonight to host 10-0 Canadians

The CCHL2's only unbeaten team, the Ottawa Jr. Canadians (10-0-0-0) will travel to Williamstown tonight, to take on the Char-Lan Rebels (5-2-1-1).

The Rebs are coming off a 9-6 loss last night in Renfrew. It was just the second regulation-time defeat this season, in nine games.
