$64 million question

North Glengarry needs federal and provincial support to proceed with the $64 million regional water project. But if Ottawa and Toronto say, "Yes," North Glengarry would have to max out its borrowing capacity. Read about the dilemma in the September 9 edition of The Glengarry News.


Advisory lifted

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit has lifted a precautionary "Do Not Use Water" advisory it issued on July 7 for residents of the Township of South Glengarry whose private water systems draw water from the St. Lawrence River between Glen Walter and South Lancaster.
The warning was issued after two tugboats capsized in the St. Lawrence River, raising fears of possible water contamination.

Bad break

A boil water advisory in Alexandria will continue into the work week. Residents must boil their water for a minute before consuming it. The order will be in effect until Wednesday. Marius Bauer inspects the source of the problem -- a broken water pipe on Main Street.

Another frozen pipe

While "Frozen" is the title of a popular movie, it could well be the theme of this winter, which has seen a high number of frozen water pipes in the area. North Glengarry works crews have been busy thawing mains in Alexandria. This has been one of the worst winters in recent memory when it comes to frozen pipes.
